Celebrating a Cherished Monroe Tradition: Cheese Days is Back!

Sep 13, 2022

It’s officially September, and you know what that means for the Monroe Truck Equipment located at our Monroe, WI headquarters? Cheese Days is back!

Cheese Days is an opportunity to celebrate our community’s Swiss heritage, our hometown’s favorite cheese, Limburger, as well as Wisconsin’s long and storied cheese culture. Our whole crew is so excited to be a Wheel of Swiss Major Sponsor for one of Green County’s biggest celebrations.

Defending Our Title

As a staple in the Monroe community, we consider it our responsibility to compete to be the best of the best. During the last Cheese Days, in 2018, Monroe Truck Equipment won best Best Parade Float. Dozens of members of our team have been scheming and planning on designs that will allow us to keep our title. We’re pretty excited to unveil our 2022 Float– we’ve worked hard to defend our title!

History of Cheese Days

Did you know Cheese Days is the oldest food festival in the midwest?  Our parents, grandparents and great-grandparents have been celebrating Cheese Days in Monroe since 1914. In the early twentieth century, a group of local businessmen planned the festival in just nineteen days, driving a roadster through the city of Monroe to publicize the event. A hand-lettered sign attached to the vehicle proclaimed “FIRST CHEESE DAY COMMITTEE 1914 – WE STARTED SOMETHING!”

Ever since, Cheese Days has been an incredible celebration for Green County residents and cheese lovers from across the country. Green County has more Wisconsin Master Cheesemakers than anywhere else in Wisconsin– so we believe we have earned the right to party!

Cheese, Cheese and More Cheese

Think you have what it takes to sample all the cheese dishes at Cheese Days? This year’s festival will have gourmet grilled cheese, cheesecake on a stick, mac and cheese, raclette, swiss dogs, nachos, cheese fries, cheesy popcorn, quesadillas, pizza– and of course tons and tons of cheesecurds! To keep things balanced, there will also be ice cream, steak sandwiches, corn dogs, cookie dough sundaes and much more!

A Surprise From Monroe Truck Equipment

Make sure to save your spot on the route of the Swiss Colony Cheese Days Parade on Sunday. Our team has a surprise and we want you to be there for the unveiling!  It’ll be “Grate”… you won’t be able to miss us!
